Sleep Stories: With Serena

To begin with, tell us a little more about who you are, where you're from and the age of your little one(s)?

My name is Serena and I'm mother to two beautiful little boys, Albie (2.5 years) and Oscar (3 months). We live in Melbourne.

What were your very first thoughts after your baby was born?

Strangely I can't remember what I thought rather how I felt. There is no greater joy than holding your baby in your arms for the first time.

Did you settle quickly into a routine with your baby? If so, do you think it worked well for you?

No. I wish I had started a stricter routine with my first baby earlier. He was so much more settled once we developed a little routine around bedtime. We're now trying to regulate our second baby's sleep times. Our babies seem to love having a routine - it's definitely worked for us.

How soon after your baby was born did you begin to swaddle your baby?

Both my babies were swaddles from the very beginning but they both hated having their arms wrapped and could wriggle out if any swaddling no matter how tight I tucked them in.

How did you come to know about Love To Dream™?

My friend had been given one for her baby and he had loved it. I was rather desperate, getting up every two hours with an unsettled baby.

Do you feel like using the Love To Dream™ range of products has made a positive impact on you and your baby's sleep?

Absolutely. The first time he slept in one of the sleep bags he slept for nearly six hours. This was the longest he had slept outside of the hospital. It had been two months of almost hourly wake-ups.

What is the one thing you wish you'd known before you became a parent?

To relax and enjoy the early days (even the sleeplessness) because the first few years go so quickly.

Three words to describe life before parenthood and three to describe life post-parenthood?

Pre- busy, social, spontaneous.

Post - busy, loving, tired.

What is the one piece of advice you'd like to offer new parents or parents-to-be?

Despite the advice, I think there are very few essentials beyond the obvious pram and cot etc.
- Baby rocker (often overlooked but absolutely essential)
- Onesies with double zips
- Electronic thermometer
- Mirror for the baby seat (most babies hate the car at first).
- Nappy bin (sangenic etc. not so important at first but great after the first few months)
